CURRICULUM INTENT

At St Mary Magdalene’s All Through School we recognise that high-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of our diverse community. This drives us to focus on ensuring that DT is an inspiring and practical subject which provides all children with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products including nutrition. It involves children in learning about the world we live in and developing a wide range of knowledge and skills through designing and making. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.

We offer children the opportunity to:

• build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make highquality prototypes and products for a wide range of users and critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others

• develop a sense of enjoyment and pride in their ability to make products that are fit for purpose while considering sustainability and natural resources

• children combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social, moral, and environmental issues, in order to design and make a product.
