YEAR 6 SPELLINGS

Dear Year 6 Parents/Carer,

I hope you all had a wonderful summer break and are feeling refreshed and ready to start your child’s final year at Christ Church.

As you know, this year is a very important year for the children in Year 6 and we have a lot of hard work ahead of us.  Therefore, it is vital that we work as a team to ensure that your child receives the best possible education.

As a result of our Creative Curriculum, all of our learning is linked by a main theme which is based around a core text. Our core text for this first half term is Unheard Voices by Malorie Blackman. Whilst studying this text, we will be learning about slavery and the fight for freedom.  We will be linking our creative lessons around this topic. We will also be looking at Light and Electricity in Science and we will continue to learn a wide range of skills in mathematics.

Homework will be given out on Fridays and will be due in on the following Friday.  Homework set will be in line with the school’s homework policy. Your child will be given a pack with their spelling lists for the whole year.  These spellings will be tested every Monday. It is extremely important that your child completes their homework in order to consolidate their learning and push their learning forward.

Daily reading is part of your child’s homework and they have been given a reading record to record when they are reading; it is expected that these are brought into school every day.  Please check this regularly to ensure that your child is reading each day at home.  It is always lovely to read any comments that you have about your child’s reading too, so please do use it.  If this reading record is lost, there will be a charge of £1 for a new one.  Similarly, if your child loses a school reading book, there will be a fee of £5.

Our PE days are on Monday and Thursday.  Your child must bring in the correct PE kit (black bottoms, a white top and trainers) on these days.  If, for any reason you do not want your child to participate in the PE lesson, you must provide a note to inform us of this.

Now your child is in Year 6, we do allow them to walk home alone.  If you decide to let your child go home, unaccompanied by an adult, you must inform a member of staff or send in a short note to give your permission.

I very much look forward to working with you to make your child’s final year a great one.  We have high expectations for the forthcoming SATs tests and anticipate good results from the children; especially if we work together.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  If you wish to discuss something at length, you can make an appointment to see me via the school office.

Kind regards,

Mrs Gibbs
