At our school, Religious Studies is shaped by both our Christian foundation and our commitment to developing thoughtful, reflective, and compassionate young people. Our curriculum is guided by a blend of the locally agreed syllabus and the 'Understanding Christianity' scheme at Key Stage 3. This combination allows students to explore the depth of Christian belief while also engaging with a broad study of world faiths and worldviews.
We organise our curriculum using a spiral approach from Reception which reflects the way key ideas are revisited throughout a student’s journey, each time with greater depth and challenge. This ensures that students not only build secure knowledge but also grow in their ability to think critically and apply their learning in new contexts.
At Key Stage 4, we follow the AQA GCSE Religious Studies specification, focusing on Christianity and Islam. This equips students with a strong understanding of both faith traditions, alongside thematic studies that encourage them to reflect on contemporary moral and philosophical issues.
At A Level, students follow the OCR specification, enabling them to study philosophy, ethics, and developments in Christian thought in greater depth. This encourages students to grapple with challenging questions about truth, morality, and the role of religion in the modern world.
Our vision is rooted in the values of faith, family, and fellowship, and inspired by the concept of the koinonia student: resilient, reflective, and ready to make a positive impact in society. Through Religious Studies, we aim to nurture young people who are not only academically successful, but also equipped to live out values of justice, compassion, and reconciliation in their everyday lives.
