A Level Pathway:

The A Level Only Pathway is an academic route that consists of a full programme of A Level courses. This pathway has two different streams: A Level + and A Level. The majority of A Levels are examination based and allow for flexibility and challenge for students who relish the opportunity to study what they want and at greater depth. In order to follow this pathway you will need to achieve a minimum of 6 GCSEs from grades 9-6 for the A Level + pathway and a minimum of 5 GCSEs from grades 9-5 for the A Level pathway. You will typically study three or four A Level subjects however, the actual number is determined by each individual’s GCSE results. You may also be offered the opportunity to complete the extended project qualification (EPQ) (depending on your GCSE results).

Combination Pathway:

At SMM6 we recognise that the A Level only route may not be the only pathway for all of our students. Therefore, to ensure that every individual is catered for we have a combination pathway where you can study one A Level and a BTEC National Diploma (equivalent to 2 A Levels). Depending on your GCSE outcomes and future aspirations, you may be encouraged to follow our combination pathway.

BTEC Pathway:

The final pathway is the BTEC only pathway where students will study a BTEC Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A Levels). This vocational route enables you to acquire the skills and knowledge associated with specific career paths. It may be possible for you to follow this pathway if you have not passed your English and/or Maths GCSE. If this is the case you will be automatically enrolled on to English and/or Maths GCSE retake classes.
