The UK-wide celebration of teaching and support staff is back. National Thank A Teacher Day will be celebrated on Wednesday 17 June 2026. We want to celebrate every single person who makes a difference to the life and education of your children: teachers, classroom assistants, office staff, lunchtime supervisors and everyone else who keeps the school running. They all deserve a thank you and recognition for what they do daily.
Please make someone’s day by sending a free e-card to a member of staff or team within the school before the day itself. It is free and only takes a moment to do and will arrive on June 17. You can send cards for free to as many staff or teams as you wish. Use the link here: https://thankateacher.co.uk/thank-a-teacher/thank-a-teacher-form/
Thank you!
Children, together with their families, designed and created their own Easter bonnets at home using a variety of creative and colourful materials. We held a friendly competition, with prizes awarded for creativity, originality, and effort, and the children were involved in voting for their favourite creations.
The recent school Science Invention fair was a resounding success, showcasing the creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills of students across all year groups. The event featured a wide range of projects, from eco-friendly solutions and smart technology prototypes to imaginative designs aimed at improving everyday life. Students confidently presented their ideas, demonstrating not only technical knowledge but also strong communication skills.

We are now a Bronze Mental Health Champions School! This award celebrates the amazing steps we as a federation have taken to empower pupils as Mental Health Champions and create a mentally healthy school culture.
World Environment Day 2025 – Fighting Plastic Pollution Together!
At the Koinonia Federation, we are celebrating World Environment Day 2025 today, Thursday 5th June! This year’s theme is “Beat Plastic Pollution,” and our students are excited to learn how they can help care for God’s creation by reducing plastic waste.
Across our schools, children are taking part in fun and meaningful activities. In assemblies, we are learning about the damage plastic causes to our oceans, animals, and even our own health. With a special visit from a member of the Young Climate Warriors organisation. They will be visiting our year 5 and 6 pupils for a special meet and greet too! It’s shocking to discover how long plastic takes to break down—and how much of it ends up in the sea. But we know that we can make a difference.
In classrooms, pupils are designing posters to raise awareness about plastic pollution. Some students are creating art using recycled materials, showing how rubbish can be turned into something beautiful. Others are making pledges to reduce single-use plastics by using reusable water bottles, lunchboxes, and shopping bags. Please read on to find out all of the wonderful activities taking place!
At the Koinonia Federation, we believe that even small changes can lead to big results. By working together, we can beat plastic pollution and protect the Earth we all share.
Let’s keep making a difference—not just today, but every day!
This term, we have been delighted to host author, Mark Ballabon, who is an environmentalist, philosopher, and author of ‘Home.’ Mark delivered talks to our Key Stage 2 students about climate change, which is an underlying theme in his most recent book. He linked his assemblies to our Invention fair, in which children were tasked to create an invention within the theme of ‘adapt and change.’ We found his visit to be incredibly inspiring, especially our Eco-Warrior and Science Ambassador groups who had a specialist workshop with him.
Mark also enjoyed his visit across our schools and said “ …the way that all the children brightly engaged, responded, volunteered, sang and asked intelligent questions, does you all proud. In which all the students who volunteered to read - from Year 6 to Year 3 - demonstrated a natural confidence and got the huge round of applause that they deserved.”
Student voice:
Zoe-Grace, Year 5: “I like that his book was about global warming and climate change and it made me think about my invention and what I can do to make the world healthier.”
Ainsley, Year 6: “If we don’t do things and find ways to change how we use resources, we won’t be more efficient and non-renewable resources will be gone.”
Jeremy, Year 6: “We need to find more creative ways of using our resources because we are running out of plastic and oil and stuff. We are hurting the environment because we are wasting so much resources. “

Linking to their learning surrounding ‘The Three Little Pigs’ story, our Peninsula and Christ Church Reception students went on an exciting visit to the farm. Not only were we delighted to spot the three little pigs, but we also saw lamas, goats, sheep, and chickens! We had a great time and ended the day by enjoying our packed lunches in the sunshine!
For science, Year 5 have been learning about the Solar System. To reinforce our knowledge and bring this wonderful topic alive, we visited the Science Museum. We saw many artefacts from NASA and we even saw a piece of rock from the moon!
We are delighted that our Reception classroom at Christ Church has been transformed over the weekend, now showcasing ‘The Garden of Hope’. The Garden of Hope is an art instillation created by artists Mary Banker and Eliana Peracchio and is made of entirely recycled materials. The Reception class were lucky enough to be joined by Mary and her team this week to take part in an art workshop of their own!

Our Reception class at Christ Church were joined by Ann, Greenwich’s School Crossing Patrol Coordinator. Ann taught us about the dangers of crossing the road and showed us how we can stay safe whilst using, and being around, transport. It was lots of fun and has also prepared us really well for using the local roads safely.
